Environment & beaches in Sanxenxo
The area and active tourism activities
To enjoy your leisure time we recommend five towns to visit and six active tourism activities for you give free rein to your adventurous streak:
Sanxenxo
The European Union considers this town a genuine paradise for bathing. This explains why it is awarded season on season with the most prestigious of awards: it is the municipality with the most blue flags in all of Spain, 13 to be specific. This status is granted every year by the European Foundation for Environmental Education to the beaches and ports which comply with quality standards in relation to water, safety, provision of general services and environmental planning.
Along the 36 kilometres there are several urban beaches such as Baltar, Silgar and Caneliñas which are famous worldwide. However, if you prefer less crowded sandy strips and beaches, you can opt for Nanín, Pragueira, Foxos, Lapa, Areas, Major, Cabelas, Pasariñas or Santa Mariña.

O Grove
This peaceful municipality considers itself the Capital of Seafood thanks to its fish market where you can enjoy a wide variety of fish and shellfish. It is located in a small peninsula connected to dry land via an isthmus known as O Bao.
If you come to O Grove don’t miss out on a tour of the area surrounding A Lanzada beach, the Archaeological Area of Carreiro, La Toja Island and the Pedras Negras Area.

Cambados
Situated in the heart of Salnés, on the left edge of the ria of Arousa, it is known worldwide as the Capital of Albariño. Everything here seems to revolve around this prestigious Galician wine.
This town is home to one of the best preserved old quarters in Galicia, with jewels such as San Francisco church, the Santa Mª de Dozo ruins (national monument situated on an ancient Roman town) and “pazos” (Galician manor houses) such as Fefiñáns, Bazán and Montesacro, Quintáns and los Maza.

Vilagarcía de Arousa
Traditionally, and since the time of the Romans, it has been a connection route between Cambados and Iria Flavia. In fact even today it is part of two routes of the Camino de Santiago: Ulla-Mar de Arousa and the Portuguese Route. One of its main attractions is the Pazo de Vista Alegre, a traditional manor house built in the XV century. It is only site in the town declared a Historical Artistic Monument. Anecdotally, the first train station in Vilagarcía de Arousa has been converted into a Railway Museum.
Combarro

Situated just 7 kilometres from Pontevedra, this seaside town is a must-see as the atmosphere of the past lives on in its streets and traditional buildings.
Especially worth a visit is the old quarter where you can admire a vast quantity of “hórreos” (traditional granaries) and ships, as well as the interesting parish church. Considered one of the best preserved towns in Galicia, in 1972 it was declared a Site of Artistic and Picturesque Interest thanks to its special charm.
Sailing and Windsurfing

In the Atlantic Ocean we have an entire “sea” of opportunities for you to feel like a sailor or mariner, whether on a motorboat, sailing boat or a surf board.
